Well, It Was Fun While It Lasted...

Well, I guess it was inevitable...Not only does our excavator have Covid, now our contractor and his crew has it too...Ugh!

This was last weeks progress. We were so hopeful, things were really starting to roll. This will be the kitchen.

This is the great room looking to the two bedrooms.

We had the ceiling material for the apartment delivered. There were three stacks like this one.

The night it was delivered we had a big storm roll through, the tarp covering the wood blew off and a lot of it got wet.  We moved it, piece by piece, into the garage to dry.

Putting the sanding sealer coat on.

We also picked up these doors off Facebook Marketplace. They have been stored in a garage for YEARS!  They look pretty rough, but we'll clean them up and they will be perfect.  This one will be for the mechanical room in the garage.

And this one will be for the gym.

Stu poly coating one of the doors for the Garage Mahal.

The concrete guys finally showed up this morning to pour the slab for the house foundation.

So, after working the weekend on the wood for the ceiling, we got 88 boards coated with sanding sealer and poly coat. Only 392 left to do....😬
Done...

A small portion of not done...

The finished slab. We also had the flooring lumber delivered this morning.

So, here we are... No well dug, no septic or gas tanks in. This has definitely been a struggle, we were hoping to be in the Garage Mahal by the end of this month, it's not looking good since that's tomorrow.

Not sure what this week will hold, we are having the whole house lumber package delivered on Thursday.  We'll also be on the hunt for more sanding sealer and poly coat, we went to 4 different stores last week and only found 1 gallon of each.

Sheetrock!!

We're back in town for the weekend, thankfully.  It's always nice to sleep in our own bed!

Here's our propane tank that should be buried next week.

The footers for the house almost done. In theory they will be pouring the slab over the gravel on Monday.

The insulators finished up yesterday and did a fantastic job!

We did the spray in foam and it's pretty amazing.

This is the garage.

The mechanical room.

The gym.

These are all the apartment.

It's impressive and the temperature difference before and after is incredible!

As you can see, they even started putting up the sheetrock yesterday.

By the time we left today, they had finished putting up the sheetrock in one bedroom and had a good start on the second.  They work fast, I can't wait to see the progress Monday morning. We are still waiting for the well to be drilled, the septic to be put in and the propane tank to be buried. Our goal is to start on the house the 1st of September. Hoping to be in the apartment soon too.

Fred Has Arrived....

We are back in town for the night, here just to pick up a few tool for tomorrow. Tropical Storm Fred is on us with force!  It started raining last night and will continue for what looks like several more hours. We needed it, but it can stop now, we are having our sheetrock delivered on Thursday, not so good in the rain.

The insulators showed up yesterday morning and started right in.

They should have finished up with the garage today and will start on the apartment tomorrow. We also had our propane tank delivered this morning. That will be buried, with any luck, next week when we have the excavator back out to put in the septic tanks. Still no word from the well driller, hopefully that will be next week as well.

Electrical Inspection...

We had a good week!  Not many pictures as most of the progress was electrical.  We had our first of many electrical inspections yesterday, we passed with flying colors!

We got my flying pig weathervane up. Also got the facia material up.

Stu cut the telephone poles on the deck platform down to an equal size, capped them with lead and put my birdhouse up...

Stu's "new to him" cement mixer, this is definitely going to come in handy!

We're ready to start the footers for the house.  The slab is supposed to be poured on the 23rd.

Stu watering our nursery, 😄.

We have a volunteer tomato plant coming up, conveniently located right in front of the camper.

Can't wait!

We've got guys coming Monday to blow in the insulation and the sheetrock arrives on Thursday. This should be another productive week!

The Roof and Deck Done!!

Great week for us!  The roof and deck are both done!

Yay, no more climbing through a window from a ladder to get to the apartment!

We had a near tragic event...the green machine almost had a blowout.  But crisis averted, Stu got the tire off.  Unfortunately, he couldn't get the other one off today, but we'll hunter gather the correct tools and we'll get a matched pair.

And this happened, not excited...  I don't care what color they are, I'm not a fan!

We also passed our second of three building inspections, yay!  It was a good sign when the inspector was walking up to the garage taking pictures saying "I really like this"!

Kenny and crew are working on the electrical downstairs in the garage, which should be done this week, then we can call the electrical inspector.  When we pass that, it's on to insulation and sheetrock.  We are hoping to get the well dug and septic in in about 2 weeks.

June Update

Wow, it's been a really, really long time since I've updated! So, here we go... We've got the primer and self leveler on the gym...
