Foundation Work!!!

Wow, it's been a crazy week, and it's not done yet...

We stopped by to see Wood Chuck, the guy that's carving our telephone poles. This is the first one, it's halfway done. Still some fine tuning to do, but he looks good.

Tuesday we borrowed a truck from a friend, loaded up the tractor and headed up to the property.  Halfway there we broke down.  It was 24 degrees out and snowing, 2 hours later we were rescued and on our way.  Didn't get much accomplished except getting the tractor out to the property, which was pretty big.

We've had so much rain the lake is coming back up already.

They started working on the foundation yesterday, finally!!

They got the garage formed up and ready for concrete.

A little more work to be done on the house and of course the rain is back.

I did a little clean up on the shoreline.  Being a TVA man made lake, there were lots of homes through this area.  I found lots of farm implements, tools, horseshoes, etc..

And A LOT of glass and pottery.  It's sad to think people that lived here for years, even generations were moved from the only home they ever knew to make this lake...

Now that we have the tractor, Stu was able to move dock # 1 a little until it got stuck on a tree stump.  They have been stuck in the same position for so long trees are starting to grow underneath.

I saw the wood chips on the ground at the base of this tree and thought "someone has been cutting our trees!" Well, not someone, something...a woodpecker.

It looks like, right now anyway, that we may have a few good days next week.  Hopefully we can get the concrete poured....

It's Been A While...

Well, I certainly thought we would be a whole lot further than we are by now...  But here we are the middle of Feb, still no foundation.

On a bright note we did finally find a camper to put on the lot during the build. So, now we have a boat and a camper, just no house... With any luck (hahaha) we'll have it at the property in the next couple of weeks, like everything else, weather permitting.

This is our mantle from the Cosby house, we call them Frick and Frack, they are old telephone poles. The new owners didn't want them, so we took them out and have decided to have 4 more carved to use on the front porch of the lake house. We'll use these guys somewhere else.

We stopped by to see the guy that is doing the carvings.  He had one almost done, but it was covered with snow, so no picture of that yet.  While we were there, he showed us some of his other projects and asked if we are in need of a mantle...  This is a piece of black walnut, absolutely!  This is in its raw state, it will be beautiful when it's done.

Last weekend we went to an auction, found these water skis.  Not that we ever intend to, but they will make great decorations.

As you can see, they were FILTHY!!

But, they both cleaned up great!

These are actually "trainers" if anyone is interested in learning...😀

Stu has been in the cabinet shop making things. This is the latest work in progress.  It will be a table that we'll put behind the couch, but will fold out so we can use it as a dinning room table.

The old barn wood is just beautiful!

These are finished, they will go on the front of  the garage under the soffit.

I took these yesterday.  Both the house and garage are excavated and just waiting for the foundation. Rumor has it that will start next Tuesday, but again, there is rain in the forecast for all next week. Ugh...

This is taken from the garage that's the house in the front.

The house.

Taken from the front of the house, the Jeep is parked in front of where the garage will be.

The water is still out, which is good, we still need to get our dock in position.

Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed for us that the stars align and we get a break in the weather next week.

June Update

Wow, it's been a really, really long time since I've updated! So, here we go... We've got the primer and self leveler on the gym...
